|Jo and Darvil in
San Marino, California house. About 1975, they were about 63 and
67. Note Darvil's little finger: in 1953 or 54, at
about 46 yrs old, riding on a piece of
corrugated tin--a makeshift sled--at Arcadia picnic area in the Graham
Mountains, he cut it on a passing root snag, or the edge of the
tin. All three kids were with him.
Mac drove down the narrow mountain, dirt, snow covered road at
breakneck speed while he held it immobile in a blood drenched rag. The
next day, Mac drove him toTucson where they operated to reattach the
tendon to no avail. It was useless from then on.
